I charged the A/C on Sunday and everything seemed to be fine. On my way to work I noticed a faint burning wood smell. I figured it was just the outside air or something so I kept going. As I went on I noticed it was getting stronger and eventually also started to smell like burning leaves or grass. Then all of a sudden I noticed smoke coming out of the vents. As soon as I saw noticed it started pouring into my truck and filled it withing 3 seconds. I pulled into a lot and shut everything off, popped the hood and got out. Didn't see anything under the hood. I pulled the front of my dash and my glove box off and so far I don't see anything there either. I smelled my radio and that smelled fine. Any ideas what it could be? I'm thinking it's something with the A/C since I charged it 3 days ago.

Is it R-12 or R-134? R-134 compressors use the coolant as the lubricant, R-12 compressors use seperate oil.

If there was smoke coming out of the vents, I don't think that'd be the compressor, it's not linked into the ducts....it may've been the blower motor or something. I'd check out that as well.

Just drove it back home. Looks like it's something with the fan. The only speed that works is high. Anyone ever change one of these out? Do you think it's the fan or could it be the switch going to the fan?

if you did lockup your compressor the smoke could've been makin it to the cowl and blown inside the truck. the blower motor is a 5 minute job. Bob the hood, passenger side, in the engine bay. 3 screws and a plug. Have at it

Looks like it was the resistor pack. I pulled it out and there were three burnt leaves stuck between the resistors and some more leaves inside the airbox. Now I'm gonna look up some salvage yards around here. Maybe I'll stick an air freshner in there while I'm at it. lol

sucked out all the crap and replaced it with a $5 resistor out of an explorer. Now I just need to find something that'll stop my cab from smelling like a forest fire.
