It's about time for me to get the truck emission tested...but, as it is right now, I won't pass. I've changed out the gauge faces, but not from the right year, so the idiot light words don't match up to what the truck is trying to light up...like when a door is open, the dash says "check fuel cap". This is a problem because there isn't a light beind the gauges where it says "check engine", which you've got to have to pass. How easy would it be to rig the gauges up so the check engine light on the gauges actually lights up? I'm not even sure if there is a bulb behind there...was thinking of just moving say the "check fuel cap" light to the "check engine" spot on the gauges...

switching bulbs around wont help anything. Do you have your stock cluster still ? if not is the odometer correct ? They doing full inspection or just the sniffer ? sounds like a full inspection

See, it's still the stock cluster, just the gauge faces are different...They are from a 98-2000 Ranger and not all of the idiot lights are in the same place, so the cluster will light up a light, but the gauge face will read something else.

All they do at the inspection is plug into the OBD II plug under the dash, and verify that you've got a functional check engine light. Hell, I even had my ABS and airbag lights flashing last year and they didn't say anything.

I know this would be a bit of work, but run an LED to behind the overlay that says check engine? I mean, it's not too hard, just have to run a few wires to move it. Drill a hole in the top and run along the outside of it so you don't interfere with the board on the back or put any bumps on the top.
