Hey I finally fixed my clutch and my engine seems like isn't running as good as it can, I think its a fuel or spark problem, any recommendations as to what to replace for a tune up? it has around 185,000 miles on the engine.

Just tuned up a buddies 2.3 last weekend...replaced spark plugs, wires, air filter, and cleaned the throttle body. If you haven't replaced your fuel filter recently (30,000 miles or so), wouldn't hurt to change that either.

Just some TB spray we found at Auto Zone. His TB was really dark and dirty. He also has an oiled K&N, and some of the dirt might be from previous over-oilings...

buddy says truck runs a lot better now...since I don't drive it everyday, I'm not sure, so I'll have to take his word for it.

well..my truck was running like the badger at one point(2 cyls...yeah like i said like the badger, lol.) but I took it in and got new plugs, wires, and had my head i guess cleaned out and man what a world of difference, I got alot more bottom end torque and it runs really smooth throughout the rpms. I would def say atleast get new plugs, wires, and filter.

i know i dont have the 2.3 but i did replace my fuel filter not to long ago ike 2 onths ago and i think it was the factory part and man what a difference it was just a little bit of a pain in the wanus. just make sure to pull the power on the uhhh awoooooo i forget the name but it disables the fuel pump in an accident. if you dont pull the power to that youll get doused with fuel like i did when we did my buddies ranger before mine. that sucked!

So Twank, what exactly did they do? I know mine is running like the badger. It takes me almost 20 seconds just to get from 0-60. I used some seafoam about 6 months ago and it made my truck misfire. I replaced the plugs and wires and that stopped that problem. But it still doesn't have the badger for power. I don't think it's been 30K since I changed my fuel filter last. I might buy another thing of seafoam tomorrow and see if it clears anything else out. I might also have some TB cleaner sitting around somewhere.

And a warning for some of you. Be carefull cleaning the throttle body. I cleaned mine like 6 years ago and once I got it all cleaned I finally saw a sticker on it saying do not clean. I ended up having to replace all my air sensors. Now my whole intake assembly is from a rolled Escort. lol

HAHAHA! That sucks todd, but im not sure exactly what they did to clean it out, i got it done at a shop, all I know is that they cleaned out all the valves and everything, baha you could also switch it over to synthetic oil, I also did that when I got my tune-up.

switching to synthetic is tricky with so many miles just be weary. leaks easier. did it to my hombre and had a few probs. check all your seals prior to switching!

synethetics are good for built motors, but a stock 2.3? With high miles? Hope you like stains in your driveway.

yeah synthetic is good stuff, I'm running amsoil in my truck now, a little pricey and I'm stuck buying it online, but it's worth it. Mrranger the only reason they say not to clean the TB is because they have a teflon coating inside to keep dirt from sticking. It doesnt work very well, but you can use a compatible throttle body cleaner. Basically like brake and carb cleaner is some harsh the badger and that can damage the coatings, but get an EFI specific can of Throttle body cleaner.

Also steam cleaning your motor is the best thing you can do to clean it out..... grab yourself a gallon of water (I'm not kidding by the way) pull off a small vacuum line going to the manifold, raise the idle by the screw or with your finger, and briefly stick the hose in the gallon of water (it's gonna suck it up fast so go easy) you'll hear the motor dog, use a small line and dont hold it in there, you can hydrolock if it sucked the whole gallon up really quick. But dip it in the gallon of water for a second or two at a time with the idle up.... Use the whole gallon....

Seafoam works really good too, you use it the same way through a small vacuum line.

It sounds bad but it isnt going to hurt anything.

I actually have a nozzle, solonoid and water pump that pumps windshield washer fluid into my boost pipe just before the throttle body at anything over 8 psi of boost. WW washer fluid just happens to be the perfect mix of water and ethanol. Think of it as chemical intercooling. If you dont understand look up Snowperformance or other water/alky injection systems. Basically I'm steamcleaning my pistons, combustion chambers, valves and ports everytime I get into boost. It supresses detonation and allows me to up the spark maps a big
